May Half Term Glamping

10/5/2023

Spring Glamping on the Farm

family glamping half term somerset
May is such a lush month on the farm, it's so green here at the moment - helped especially by April's rain!  We have had two busy bank holiday weekends and hope all the families who stayed here had a happy time.  The next popular glamping dates are May Half Term, if you'd like to stay we still have some availability either in safari tents, or more solid structures like our cabin or holiday cottage.  We have a choice of short stays or longer stays.

Farm Stay in Somerset, Join us for a Farm Tour

We run farm tours a couple of times a week, as you'd expect when animals are concerned the experience is unpredictable!  Patrick usually manages to catch a lamb or two if anyone would like a couple, say hello to our large curly pig, we'll creep up to the alpaca and give them a bucket of cereal, visit the ram and our flock of sheep, see our neighbours lovely Aberdeen angus cows in the distance and finish with visiting the chickens.  We have them safely in a run this year so hopefully no fox disasters this year!

Middle Stone Farm is on the Somerset Devon border and there's lots of gorgeous countryside on our door step and things to do nearby.  The coast is about 25 minutes drive, it's never busy here, even on a bank holiday - our favourites are Blue Anchor and Dunster beach, Bossington is beautiful with large stones (not sand) and Kilve is good for rock pool and fossil finding.  We have good National Trusts here in West Somerset - Dunster Castle has lots to see, you could easily spend a whole day there, ditto Knightshayes Court over the border in Devon - the gardens here are lush and make sure you book a table at the brilliant Lost Kitchen next door - our favourite place to eat.

If you like walking we're surrounded by brilliant walking country - Dunkery Beacon is about 25 minutes away - the highest point in Somerset, it has amazing views on a clear day, it's an easy walk if you park half way up, or for a longer walk park at the bottom and walk up, it's not steep.  Wimbleball Lake is a similar distance from us with walks, water sports, children's playground and high ropes, Clatworthy Reservoir is closer, about 15 minutes  and really beautiful - not dog friendly though sadly!

Dog Friendly Safari Tent Glamping in Somerset

We have three dog friendly safari tents here on the farm, all our tents sleep up to six guests, they have private bathrooms, kitchens, electricity, fridges and large wood burning stoves to cook on and warm you up in the evening.  We have a dog run paddock where you can let your dog off its lead close to the lodges if he or she wants to let off steam before you go out exploring.

Farm Shop On Site and Catering Available

We have a well stocked little farm shop on the farm where you can pick up all kinds of essentials and treats for your stay.  The meat is either from our own animals or for beef and chicken we use a good quality friendly butcher nearby.  If you like sausages we really hope you'll buy some of ours, our pigs are free range, we don't give them antibiotics or any drugs at all, they live a happy life here, so it's a very different product to a cheap supermarket sausage where those poor pigs probably never saw the light of day.

The meat from our sheep is also delicious, the Somerset grass makes a delicious diet for them, our lamb isn't a little young lamb like you'll see in the spring, it's a year old sheep, sometimes slightly more so they've had a happy time here before it's time to send them on their way.  We offer marinated joints for your firepit barbecues, shepherd's pie is available too so are chops.

We also have a good range of quality alcohol in the shop, Patrick used to be a wine merchant so he knows his stuff and everything we sell is delicious.  There are lots of local Somerset ciders, IPA and beer, we have local apple juice too for breakfast, and several Exmoor Gin and independent rum and vodkas too.

We sell all the basics like pasta, cereals, rice, sweeties, biscuits, crisps and nuts, marshmallows for toasting over the firepit ashes and lots more.  During the busy season there are usually veg kebabs in the shop fridge too.

Glamping with Children's Play Areas
We have two children's play areas on the farm with swings, a couple of climbing frames, slide and some upcycled play things too.  This is a lovely place for families to meet other families staying here, we tend to host children of a similar age.  We have our play equipment safety tested annually and the inspectors have been happy with what we offer this year.
