October Glamping Holidays & Half Term AvailabilitySafari Tent GlampingThe seasons changed this week and there is definitely a sniff of Autumn in the air. We have lots of availability at the moment, it's quiet here at this time of year so if you book a stay you may well find you have the place to yourselves! I expect we'll be busy over October Half Term, we usually are, we have lots of availability still if you'd like to stay. All our accommodation has wood stoves, the stoves in the safari tents are large and if you use them correctly they'll heat the tent space so you're cosy. There are firepit style barbecues outside for toasting marshmallows, warming toes or cooking over the fire. As the nights draw in earlier our outside festoon lights come on with enough light for you to be able to find your hot tub! Inside the safari tents we have LED lighting as well as a few tea lights, so it might be pitch black outside but you'll still be able to see. Somerset & Exmoor National ParkWe're very close to Exmoor National Park, it's just 3 miles from the farm and a really beautiful landscape to explore. September brings colour whilst the heather is in flower and the morning mists are ethereal. I took this photograph from the road going up the hill on from Porlock, there are lots of places to pull over, walk, sip coffee from a thermos or take a footpath and explore. We're so close to Wales you'll get a good view of the Welsh coast from up here. There's a list of local places to visit on our website, we're near some good National Trusts and there are umpteen country pubs to visit too. Farm Experience Holidays SomersetThis is Fernando, our Mangalitsa pig, he's 2 1/2 now, we don't usually keep pigs here so long. He's a pedigree Swallow Belly, he'd really like a wife if you're reading this and you'd like to give him a new home! He's fathered lots of gorgeous piglets here and he'd love to do that again on another farm. I expect next year we'll go back to our usual pig breed, either Devon Blacks or Berkshires who grow a bit faster than this lovely fellow. If you're coming to stay and would like a farm tour, we do these once or twice a week, giving guests an opportunity to scratch Fernando whilst he's having his breakfast, feed the alpacas, cuddle a chicken, pat a sheep or two and hiss at a goose! Glamping in a Safari TentThe six safari tents at Middle Stone Farm stay open until early November when it's time to shut them up for their winter rest and any renovations. During the winter they are really too cold to stay in - if you want to stay over Christmas or New Year, our cottage and cabin are available and they will be much warmer!
Family Glamping with Hot Tubs, South West UKWe're a bit quieter than usual at Middle Stone Farm this year and still have quite a bit of school holiday availability if you're planning a last minute glamping holiday. We have lots of options here, and all our accommodation is child and family friendly, we also have dog friendly glamping options and take two dogs in three of our safari tents. If you're a couple looking for an August break, our cabin, Kilve or Kestrel Lodges are popular for adult breaks - these have a bit more privacy and aren't so near the children's play areas. All our glamping and our holiday cottage have hot tubs, they're large enough for all the family to get in together, and extra spacious if you plan to use them after the children are asleep! Dog Friendly Glamping SomersetDog Friendly Safari TentsWe have a dog paddock close to our dog friendly safari tents where dogs can run off their lead, it's fenced so should be a safe place and there's a bench in there so you can relax with a coffee (or beer) whilst your dog lets off steam. All the beaches in West Somerset are dog friendly, and so are most of the local pubs. There's a list of good walks on our website, and more on Visit Exmoor or the Exmoor National Park website. This is Otter our Giant Schnauzer, he only comes into the glamping fields on changeover days as where ever Patrick is, he'll be close by. We like to run our dogs at Blue Anchor Bay, it's about 25 minutes from us and a good mile or even more if the tide's out - there's stones at the top of the beach and sand near the shore, it's free to park and there are a couple of cafes at the beach as well. Dunster Beach is next door if you want to add on a couple more miles and really tire them out! Both beaches have ice cream vans too. Log Cabin & Holiday Cottages with Hot TubsGlamping in Somerset with Hot Tubs, Dog Friendly & Family Friendly HolidaysWe still have quite a lot of availability this summer with both short and long stays available, we have tried to be a bit more flexible this year. Our three dog friendly glamping lodges are Buzzard, Hawk and Kestrel, we allow two well behaved dogs in each of these three lodges, we have a paddock available too where dogs can run off their leads whist you relax with a coffee or cider! We're a very family friendly site with two children's play areas within the glamping fields. The grass is long and swishy at the moment and full of wild flowers which the butterflies are enjoying, although I expect the grass will become bales soon Dog Friendly Glamping with Hot TubsThis is one of our dog friendly glamping lodges, all our safari tents sleep up to six guests, they all have firepits like this one and large Swedish wood fired hot tubs. When we arrived at Middle Stone Farm we planted a lot of shrubs and trees, the grass is lush here so it's taken them a while whilst they compete for space, but they're doing well this year and I think they're really pretty. There are apple trees as well as some native Somerset varieties. We have solar fairy lighting ncar the hot tubs so you can enjoy time outside without fumbling around for a torch. There's very little light pollution in West Somerset, we're not near any cities so the clear nights are amazing for anyone wanting to do some star gazing. Glamping with Hot Tubs, Somerset, South West UKWest Somerset is a bit of a secret whilst a lot of tourists whizz through on their way to Cornwall. It's a really beautiful part of the South West, we're three miles from Exmoor, the least visited National Park in the country so you won't find the rivers and footpaths crowded. We have a page of favourite walks above under our Explore page and the beaches are all fairly quiet as well, even on a busy Sunday in August. They're a combination of sand and stones, the nearest beach is Blue Anchor Bay, 25 minutes from here, free to park with an inexpensive cafe called The Driftwood. On a hot summer's day the rivers on Exmoor are pretty gorgeous, Tarr Steps (below) is the most famous, if you walk away from the clapper bridge you'll most likely have the footpath to yourselves and there are gorgeous spots for a picnic and wild swim. Tarr Steps, Exmoor National ParkGlamping on a Somerset Farm with Hot TubsWe've noticed some families who stay here for a short glamping break don't leave the farm! Hanging out in a hot tub is a pretty relaxing way to spend an afternoon! We have plenty of books, children's toys, we have a little glamping farm shop, alpacas to peer at over the hedge, childrens swings, climbing frames and lots of paths through the grass to play hide and seek. Our hot tubs take 3hrs to heat up, if we're not busy we can sometimes heat them for guests, there's information about that on our hot tub page. They're more eco than the electric hot tubs, our firewood comes from sustainable forestry nearby. They're safe for children over the age of 5, and lovely for the adults when the children are tucked up in bed!
Lots of Huge Fossils on Kilve Beach! The beach at Kilve is a bit of a local secret, we love sharing local knowledge with our guests although I wonder if I should be writing a blog about it, too late now! Kilve beach is really unusual looking, when we first moved to Somerset I saw it in the winter and found it terribly ugly, but over the years I've grown quite fond of it - and now we know where to find the fossils we visit regularly with our children and the dogs. Unlike the Devon and Dorset Jurassic coast where you'll find small ammonites(if you're lucky) and everyone seems to be using hammers - the fossils at Kilve are huge, you don't need a hammer and you won't be putting them in your pocket, but leaving them there for the next visitors to find. I like collecting smaller stones and I use them in art projects, there are so many interesting rocks and pebbles on this beach! We highly recommend walking in sturdy trainers or walking boots, the stones are like boulders so take care of your ankles whilst you fossil hunt. If you're staying with us during your trip, ask us when you're here where we go, as some part of the beach have more fossils than others. It's never busy at Kilve - even on a Sunday in August - take a picnic and there are beaches on the headland amount the wild flowers and the views towards Wales are beautiful and you'll spy a bit of Hinkley Power Station too which is interesting. West Somerset BeachesKilve beach car park is privately owned and there's a camera which clocks your number plate when you drive in, so please buy a ticket as soon as you get there, don't linger or buy it when you leave - you'll get a fine in the post, so buy a ticket as soon as you arrive! There's a tea room next to the tea room - varying reviews on TripAdvisor so maybe read that before you go - we just get ice creams to take away and bring a picnic with us. There's a small river by the car park with shade - our dogs love it here! There's a footpath running along the low cliff above the beach so if you have the energy, do walk some of it- it's really pretty. If sandy beaches are more your scene, as you travel along the West Somerset coast, the rocky beaches become sandy beaches! Blue Anchor is about 20 minutes from us and a combination of sand and pebble, Dunster beach has sand and so does Minehead. The south Devon beaches are an hour's drive from us and also beautiful - but much busier, we tend to avoid the busy beaches in July and August and leave them for a September trip. Jurassic Coast & Charmouth BeachCharmouth Beach is very famous for fossils, it's where Mary Anning lived and found the amazing Ichthyosaur skeletons on display at the the Natural History Museum. Apparently she's the subject of the tongue twister - "she sells sea shells on the sea shore"!
We went Charmouth at October Half Term with the children, and left fairly quickly as it was so crowded with all the families hammering away, we didn't really enjoy it - but there is a really good visitor centre in the car park who have some amazing displays - we had to queue to get in but it was worth it as they were amazing. So if you're heading down to Charmouth - about 1 hr from us, we do suggest to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Their website says they do fossil hunting walks which is probably a good idea if you don't want to come home empty handed. Lyme Regis is next door and a really pretty place to visit and the bay is perfect for swimming. Again we avoid this place in the summer - too crowded and parking is a pain, but lovely at the start and end of the summer and the winter when the crowds have pottered off! Cabins & Safari Tents with Hot TubsIf you're planning a last minute get away for the next May Bank Holiday we have availability in quite a few options - we have several safari tents available, including some next to each other if you want to stay as a group. The cottage and cabin are also available in a different location on the farm. It's lush here now summer has finally arrived, I've just taken this photo this afternoon, the glamping fields are a sea of buttercups and we have moved the alpaca back into the field next door so families can admire them from the seating on the tent decks. Glamping over May Half Term & Bank HolidayAs it's last minute, we have reduced our stays into short breaks, although a week is always better value. There will be some complimentary food items on the table when you arrive, and regular farm tours so every family has a chance to meet the animals with us. Crossing my fingers the gorgeous weather looks set to continue, late May is really the loveliest month for glamping! Our lambs are already fat and confidently running around the field away from their mothers, and the apple trees are still laiden with beautiful blossom, soon to turn into apples hopefully. Revamping the CabinWhilst it's been quiet and we haven't had guests staying Patrick and I have been re painting the cabin which looked a bit tired over the winter. It has a new Scandinavian vibe now, the lush greens of the farm and the apple trees look lovely against the dark colour, the front will stay white for a little while longer and we have plans to update the interior in September when we have a longer gap between guests. Cabin with Private Hot TubAll our glamping and holiday cottages have Swedish hot tubs, they're the perfect place to relax at the end of a day's exploring. Our hot tubs come from Sweden, they're wood fired - you add logs which we provide to the hot tub stove and heat the water with a good hot fire. There are solar fairy lights outside, shrubs, trees and fire pits outside all the safari tents and cabin too. We've planted several hundred trees since arriving at Middle Stone Farm, they've taken a little while to establish but this year they've really taken off. Our apple orchard produces more apples than we'd ever for crumbles, so this year we'll look into sending it off to be converted to apple juice, or maybe investing in the kit to juice our apples ourselves. Tomatoes and salad crops are growing well in the polytunnel and we have huge amounts of rhubarb, do ask us for some if you're staying here, it's delicious and free for our guests whilst we have so much. We sell our freshly laid eggs in the shop, and sausages and chops come from our rare breed pigs, delicious cooked over the firepit (we have veggie and vegan options in our shop too). Glamping Cabin for 6 with Private Bathroom and Large Family Sized Hot TubSpring Glamping on the FarmMay is such a lush month on the farm, it's so green here at the moment - helped especially by April's rain! We have had two busy bank holiday weekends and hope all the families who stayed here had a happy time. The next popular glamping dates are May Half Term, if you'd like to stay we still have some availability either in safari tents, or more solid structures like our cabin or holiday cottage. We have a choice of short stays or longer stays. Farm Stay in Somerset, Join us for a Farm TourWe run farm tours a couple of times a week, as you'd expect when animals are concerned the experience is unpredictable! Patrick usually manages to catch a lamb or two if anyone would like a couple, say hello to our large curly pig, we'll creep up to the alpaca and give them a bucket of cereal, visit the ram and our flock of sheep, see our neighbours lovely Aberdeen angus cows in the distance and finish with visiting the chickens. We have them safely in a run this year so hopefully no fox disasters this year! Middle Stone Farm is on the Somerset Devon border and there's lots of gorgeous countryside on our door step and things to do nearby. The coast is about 25 minutes drive, it's never busy here, even on a bank holiday - our favourites are Blue Anchor and Dunster beach, Bossington is beautiful with large stones (not sand) and Kilve is good for rock pool and fossil finding. We have good National Trusts here in West Somerset - Dunster Castle has lots to see, you could easily spend a whole day there, ditto Knightshayes Court over the border in Devon - the gardens here are lush and make sure you book a table at the brilliant Lost Kitchen next door - our favourite place to eat. If you like walking we're surrounded by brilliant walking country - Dunkery Beacon is about 25 minutes away - the highest point in Somerset, it has amazing views on a clear day, it's an easy walk if you park half way up, or for a longer walk park at the bottom and walk up, it's not steep. Wimbleball Lake is a similar distance from us with walks, water sports, children's playground and high ropes, Clatworthy Reservoir is closer, about 15 minutes and really beautiful - not dog friendly though sadly! Dog Friendly Safari Tent Glamping in SomersetWe have three dog friendly safari tents here on the farm, all our tents sleep up to six guests, they have private bathrooms, kitchens, electricity, fridges and large wood burning stoves to cook on and warm you up in the evening. We have a dog run paddock where you can let your dog off its lead close to the lodges if he or she wants to let off steam before you go out exploring. Farm Shop On Site and Catering AvailableWe have a well stocked little farm shop on the farm where you can pick up all kinds of essentials and treats for your stay. The meat is either from our own animals or for beef and chicken we use a good quality friendly butcher nearby. If you like sausages we really hope you'll buy some of ours, our pigs are free range, we don't give them antibiotics or any drugs at all, they live a happy life here, so it's a very different product to a cheap supermarket sausage where those poor pigs probably never saw the light of day. The meat from our sheep is also delicious, the Somerset grass makes a delicious diet for them, our lamb isn't a little young lamb like you'll see in the spring, it's a year old sheep, sometimes slightly more so they've had a happy time here before it's time to send them on their way. We offer marinated joints for your firepit barbecues, shepherd's pie is available too so are chops. We also have a good range of quality alcohol in the shop, Patrick used to be a wine merchant so he knows his stuff and everything we sell is delicious. There are lots of local Somerset ciders, IPA and beer, we have local apple juice too for breakfast, and several Exmoor Gin and independent rum and vodkas too. We sell all the basics like pasta, cereals, rice, sweeties, biscuits, crisps and nuts, marshmallows for toasting over the firepit ashes and lots more. During the busy season there are usually veg kebabs in the shop fridge too. Glamping with Children's Play Areas We have two children's play areas on the farm with swings, a couple of climbing frames, slide and some upcycled play things too. This is a lovely place for families to meet other families staying here, we tend to host children of a similar age. We have our play equipment safety tested annually and the inspectors have been happy with what we offer this year.
Easter Holiday Glamping in SomersetOur six safari tents open this week for the glamping season, and we still have some availability left for the upcoming Easter school holidays. Three quarters of our lambs have safely arrived, there are just nine ewes still to go - lots of singles this year which we're glad about as it means they're large and their mothers will have enough milk for them, these lambs will do so much better than any orphans on a bottle! A fortnight of rain recently means the farm is starting to look green with little buds and leaves opening everywhere, there are primroses along the lane verges and all the signs of spring! As soon as we have some warmer days, the top glamping field is a sea of buttercups which flower through late April until after May Half Term. Our safari lodges are perfectly cosy whatever the weather. We supply a generous supply of complimentary firewood and kindling for you to use on the large stove inside the lodge kitchen for your cooking and warming the tent space in the evening. If you've hired a hot tub, we supply a second supply for heating your water too. We have new curtains in the lodges this year which will help keep things cosy in the evening, there's LED lighting as well as tea lights so you'll have overhead light for board games in the evening or if you're curling up on the sofa with a book. The safari tents have warm duvets, blankets and throws, a supply of hot water bottles and rugs on the floor, at the start and end of the season we do suggest warm pyjamas and bed socks, woolly hats if you're spending time in the hot tub at night too! Farm Stay in Somerset, Glamping and Holiday Cottages on a Working FarmAs well as safari tents, we have a glamping cabin and holiday cottage on the farm too, these stay open through the winter months, they're a bit smaller than the lodges, so a cheaper option and lovely for couples or families with young children. The cabin is close to our animals, bring your binoculars and you'll see the lambs from your bedroom window. The cabin is available for Easter weekend at the moment, a perfect Somerset farm stay! Come Glamping For The King's Coronation Weekend Bank Holiday We're fully booked now for the first May Bank Holiday, but we do have lots of availability for the King's Coronation weekend, our top field is completely free so available for a group booking of all three lodges (we ask groups to take a whole field). May is usually a gorgeous month to come glamping, we think it's the prettiest month on the farm when everything is a new lush green and the fields are looking their best. We have a good 4G signal on the farm if you want to tap into your phone and watch the Coronation celebrations in London! We might try and set up a TV in one of our barns, but bear with us there and we'll need to see if our WiFi can cope with that. If we think it's possible we'll post a message on our Facebook page.
Spring Holidays on the FarmWe're a week away from the first lambs arriving and so many plants and trees are in bud now, Spring is certainly just around the corner. We have plenty of availability for the Easter school holidays in all our accommodation, both glamping and the holiday cottages. If you'd like to stay sooner whilst it's quiet and peaceful, the Stable Cottage and Dckhouse Cabin are available every weekend though March, with couple discounts running if there are only two of you. The ewes look pretty round to me, I hope there won't be too many triplet lambs as invariably the smallest will need to be bottle fed - lovely for our guests, but a bit of a chore for us when we're busy getting ready to open the safari tents for the first guests of the season! Snow is due this week, but that's fine, we'd rather have it now not in April! Guests don't need to worry though it's cosy in all our accommodation with large efficient wood burning stoves and a generous supply of firewood included for your stay. All the safari tents have new curtains this year, with bedroom curtains interlined with extra layers so you'll be cosy in bed at the start and end of the season. Safari Tent Kitchens with Large Wood Burning StovesDog Friendly Safari Tent Glamping with Enclosed Paddock for Dogs Off Their Leads!Every year we look at what we offer and make a few tweaks here and there, and this year we have moved the goats out of their paddock to make a space where guests can run their dogs off the lead in an enclosed space. This paddock is fairly large and close to our three dog friendly safari tents, Buzzard, Hawk and Kestrel Lodges. We've also upped our dog allowance, and now allow two dogs in each of these lodges - well behaved dogs, not puppies please and up to date with all their vaccines. Our dog rules are over on our T&C and important guests read these as we're a working farm with lots of animals, lambs, chickens etc as well as small children. Middle Stone Farm is in a very rural location, surrounded by gorgeous, unspoilt countryside and just a couple of miles from Exmoor National Park where there are no end of lovely walks, in woodland, open heath or along the coast. All the beaches around here are dog friendly, there aren't restrictions on the local beaches as West Somerset is a fairly unknown (secret) destination and most people fly on past to Cornwall without realising how gorgeous and unspoilt this area of the South West is. For guests wanting to avoid crowds and tourist traps, this is the place to stay! Somerset Holiday close to Exmoor National Park & The Quantock HillsYou'll find a list on our website of all our favourite places in and around Exmoor National Park, the photograph above is of Tarr Steps, it's so gorgeous on a hot day- well any day really. It can be busy here on a hot Sunday in August, but step way a few metres away from the bridge and follow the footpath along the river and you'll have lots of areas to yourself where you can paddle, wild swim, stop for picnic or just a quiet moment to take in this beautiful place. For more stops along rivers try Withypool, Wimbleball, Simonsbath, Bossington village Clatworthy Reservoir (very close to us) or Exford with its well known pub. Farm Stay Holiday Experiences, Glamping in SomersetWe offer regular farm tours for anyone who's interested, now Spring is nearly here, it's a nicer time to be in the fields, not quite so muddy as it is in December and we'll be lambing soon, so there's lots to see. Every year the fox tends to come through and kill all our chickens which is terribly sad and frustrating, so for 2023 we have a new covered chicken run, large enough for our twenty hens. With bird flu raging around the country, most people's chickens are shut inside and can't be labelled as free range, but as ours are now outside again, in their safe space, our eggs are free range and you can buy them from us for your breakfast. We also have pigs on the farm as well as sheep, alpacas, a couple of geese and a few goats. Children's Play Area, Child Friendly Glamping Holidays in the South WestAll our accommodation is child, toddler and baby friendly, we have two play areas in the glamping fields, two sets of swings, two climbing frames, mini ride on tractors for small children, a mini hill to climb with a tunnel running through it and giant tractor wheels for farm styled hop-scotch - quite popular with adults too! Inside all the accommodation are child friendly crockery and cutlery, we have baskets of toys and children's books tucked away in all the accommodation and our shop has children's toys and books too. Our hot tubs are safe for children over the age of five (younger children and toddlers shouldn't use a streaming hot tub because their bodies are not able to regulate their temperature and cool off as adults are able to). The bathrooms have child friendly steps to reach the basins, non slip mats and potties are available too. If you're staying as an adult couple, don't worry all this kit is tucked away when we don't have children staying! There's plenty of space in front of the lodges for children to run free and let of steam, we also have bicycle racks close to each accommodation so you can store your bikes if you've brought them on holiday with you, in the summer when it's not muddy children can cycle happily around the fields Family Glamping with Children and Toddlers on the FarmFarm Holiday over February Half TermThinking about going away over February Half Term? We have availability in both our holiday cottage or our cabin which is slightly quirkier. Both are warm and cosy with wood burning stoves in the sitting rooms, and the cottage has central heating and double glazing as well. There's a private wood fired hot tub outside both accommodations and we're offering hot tub pre heats as well for guests who want to plunge straight in when they arrive! Meet the Animals at Middle Stone FarmAlpaca FeedingWe have animals close by both accommodations, there are lambs in the orchard at the moment munching away at apple prunings, and a large friendly pig further along the drive who is very happy to see our visitors and eat any apple cores. The alpaca are hungry at this time of year so super engaged, and very happy to peer at humans as well, do join us to see them eat their morning muesli! There are lots of family friendly things to do in the local area, we love the new East Quay Gallery at Watchet, it's free to visit with interesting modern art exhibitions, artist's workshops to visit and a really good cafe. The gallery has great vistas out over the harbour and Bristol Channel. Watchet is just a 20 minute drive from us, make sure you visit the lego shop when you're there too, ask us where it is before you go, it has a brilliant display of vintage 1970s lego and some very collectable Star Wars models too! Exmoor & Somerset Coast, Blue Anchor BayBlue Anchor is our nearest beach, about 25 minutes drive from here, also near Watchet. It's a couple of miles long, and a combination of stones and sand, we love to go shell hunting at this time of year, there are also interesting coloured stones at the far end of the beach. The Driftwood Cafe is open all year round, an unpretentious place with all day breakfasts, fish and chips and cream teas, it's not expensive and has seating both indoors and out. Dunster Castle is a few miles further down the road and a really good National Trust. Families can explore both inside the castle where there's lots to see and the gorgeous park and gardens. They're very child friendly, with lists of things for children to spot around the house and there's a lovely play area in the woods. Dunster village is also lovely to explore with its thatched cottages and ancient buildings, there are plenty of cafes, good pubs and restaurants in Dunster too and a good tourist info with lots of local information and friendly well informed staff who know the local area well. Let us Cook for You; Breakfast Hampers, Cakes & Home Cooked SuppersWe have lots of food choices available which can be pre ordered and ready in your kitchen for your arrival and you can also order food during your stay. Breakfast hampers with local products are always available consisting of sausages and bacon from our free ranging pigs, freshly eggs from next door (the deepest yellow yolks, double yolks if you're lucky), home cooked bread, local apple juice, milk and butter. We can provide joints of meat for the oven or barbecue and home cooked suppers too.
Safari Tents with Hot Tubs in SomersetWe're counting down the weeks until the Spring and busy getting our safari tents ready for the 2023 glamping season! Easter is a lovely time to stay with new born lambs, blossom budding on the apple trees, a chorus of birdsong in the trees and native hedging and usually a busy glamping site full of families and children! We offer a variety of long weekends, short stays or full weeks in both our glamping and cottages during the Easter holidays. Usually Easter has fairly decent temperatures, it was freezing last year, so we're prepared with lots of blankets and water bottles in case it's another cold start to the school holidays. We've replaced all the blinds in the safari tents this year with thick linen curtains, wool interlined in the bedrooms making them much warmer for the start and end of the season. Join us for a Farm TourOur herd of alpacas grows a little larger every year, this photo is of the boys who live opposite Porlock, Kilve and Bossington safari tents, they whizz over when they see a bucket of food, and we hope to offer guests some hand feeding this year as we've been encouraging them to be a bit braver and eat out of a scoop. Lambing on the FarmWe start lambing in mid March, we plan this carefully so the ewes should have all finished by the time guests arrive. By April they should have had their collustrom and be bouncing around fairly independently in the fields. We always have a few orphans on a bottle, or abandoned lambs when their mother has three. These will definitely be part of our farm tour for any children who'd like a go lamb feeding, or picking them up for a cuddle. The orphan lambs are very tame and will rush over when they see a human! Safari Tents Group Glamping with Hot TubsWe're a great glamping site for groups of families wanting to stay together. We have two separate fields of safari tents, all with hot tubs, private bathrooms, proper beds, electricity etc. The lodges in the photo above are Porlock, Bossington and Kilve, these ones are good for families with older children, they're a minute or two's walk away from the play area, and have gorgeous views onto Exmoor National Park. These three safari tents are dog free, so suitable lodges for guests with allergies. Farm Stay Somerset, Holiday Cottages & GlampingOur pigs were a bit out of control last year, with so many pregnancies, piglets and escaping pigs everywhere! We have a few less this month, with 10 small pigs in the freezer, but still plenty of pigs around the farm to amuse guests on farm tours.
